Senior law enforcement officials from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, EU Member States, GCCPOL, and Europol convened in Abu Dhabi for the initial meeting of the General Directors of Criminal Investigations and Intelligence on February 5th and 6th, 2025. The meeting was centered around addressing common security challenges such as cybercrime, financial crime, money laundering, online child exploitation, human trafficking, and environmental crimes.
During the conference, delegates seized the opportunity to exchange insights and knowledge on tackling cross-border security threats. They delved into discussions on current and emerging crime trends, aiming to bolster a more robust response to transnational criminal activities. This gathering signified a notable collaboration between GCCPOL and Europol, following the signing of a Letter of Intent on July 14, 2017, to enhance joint efforts against organized crime and terrorism.
The meeting underlined a significant stride in the alliance, strengthening coordinated initiatives to disrupt transnational criminal networks and safeguard communities from illicit operations. Reaffirming their commitment under the Letter of Intent, GCCPOL and Europol outlined plans to intensify cooperation by exploring avenues to share best practices and expertise in crime combating domains, promoting capacity building for collaboration and information exchange among law enforcement agencies of GCC countries and EU Member States.
The overarching objective remains focused on fortifying concerted efforts among the GCC countries and EU Member States in bolstering internal security. By enhancing cross-border cooperation, GCCPOL and Europol aspire to effectively combat criminal threats spanning both regions, enforcing a united front against illicit activities.
